Didem Gordon
Thirty five years inside the accountability structures of financial institutions and listed companies, asking the question that is now the central question of artificial intelligence accountability: who is responsible, and to whom?
Didem Gordon has held C level executive and board roles at some of Türkiye’s leading banks and financial groups, spanning both Turkish and European ownership. This included nine years at C level at a bank and its financial subsidiaries, jointly owned on a 50/50 basis by a Turkish and a European institution, and on the boards of its financial subsidiaries. She also served as Chairperson and CEO of the asset management subsidiary of a listed UK asset manager. Alongside these executive roles, she has held board positions at numerous sectoral NGOs. Today, she holds Non Executive Director mandates, taken selectively, on the boards of listed companies operating across Türkiye and beyond.
As a finance professional, she has invested in both listed and unlisted companies and been a stakeholder across a wide range of projects, working closely with regulators, international institutional investors, rating agencies, and supranationals. She understands how boards should function because she has formed them, operated under them, alongside them, and on them.
Her career has moved in a consistent direction: from capital markets, to governance, to sustainability, to the governance of artificial intelligence. Nothing has been replaced along the way. Each layer built on the one before it.
She contributed to various communiqués of Turkish capital markets regulation through her association duties, including the Turkish Corporate Governance Communiqué and the Corporate Governance Index, sat on the Borsa Istanbul Audit Committee, chaired the Regulatory Framework and Tax Committee of the Turkish Capital Markets Association, and served as Vice Chairperson of the Turkish Institutional Investment Managers Association. She is a named member of two of Türkiye’s Development Plan special expertise commissions: Domestic Savings under the 10th Plan, and Financial Services Development under the 11th.
